DigiD stands for 'Digital Identity'. It is a personal combination of a username and password which you use to prove your identity on the internet. The DigiD assures organisations that you are who you say you are. Many government agencies and organisations enable people to access their services with a DigiD, including the Tax and Customs Administration, Social Insurance Bank and the Employee Insurance Agency.
If you are a Dutch national living abroad, you can obtain a DigiD from any one of several municipal front desks. If you receive a Dutch old age pension and live abroad, you can apply for a DigiD through the Social Insurance Bank.
