Science and Technology in the Netherlands
Dutch researchers produce 7% of the EU scientific publications and hold 6% of its patents. Around 5,000 Dutch companies conduct their own research to develop new products and make production more efficient. The country five largest multinationals - Philips, Shell, Akzo Nobel, DSM, and Unilever - are at the forefront of industrial research and development. The Ministry of Economic Affairs actively encourages technological innovation with subsidies open to all companies in the Netherlands, regardless of the owners nationality.

Science and Technology in Korea
In Korea, the amount of money that has been spent on R&D has been steadily increasing over the last 10 years. In 2005, R&D expenditure as a percentage of GDP is 2.85, which is higher than major countries like Germany and the US. About 35% of all R&D-budget is in the IT sector. It has good result: Korea is number one on the Digital Opportunity Index of the ITU. 15% on the R&D-budget is spent on biotechnology and nanotechnology.
