From March 6th until March 10th the first round of the World Baseball Classic, the Baseball World Cup, will be played in the Gocheok Sky Dome in Seoul. Team Kingdom of the Netherlands will play in Group A together with South Korea, Chinese Taipei and Israel.
From 9 to 12 February, the World Single Distances Speed Skating Championships will be held at the Gangneung Oval in Gangneung. This is a test event for PyeongChang Olympic Games organized by the PyeongChang Organizing Committee for the 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games to smooth out operations in advance of the Olympic Games.
The Dutch agri & food sector has further strengthened its leading position in the world market. In 2016, Agri & Food exports totalled almost 94 billion euros, compared to 90 billion in 2015. Agricultural products accounted for 85 billion euros and agricultural materials, knowledge and technology accounted for 9 billion: a new record. This means the agri & food sector now comprises 22% of total exports. This is shown by provisional figures from Statistics Netherlands (CBS) and Wageningen Economic Research. Minister for Agriculture Martijn van Dam announced these figures during the opening of International Green Week in Berlin, the largest international agricultural trade exhibition in the world.
The EU-Korea Free Trade Agreement (FTA) entered into force in 2011. The agreement eliminates progressively the customs duties for industrial and agricultural goods. In addition, it addresses non-tariff barriers to trade. The agreement creates new opportunities for market access in services and investments, and includes provisions on competition, government procurement, intellectual property rights, transparency in regulation and sustainable development.
5 Visit of HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands to promote startup cooperation between the Netherlands and Korea
From November 21-23, HRH Prince Constantijn of the Netherlands, StartupDelta Special Envoy, will visit Korea. As the Netherlands is known as a leading startup ecosystem in Europe, Prince Constantijn will promote the Netherlands as the ‘place to be’ and gateway to Europe for Korean companies. The Prince brings along some top-notch startups that want to introduce their high-tech innovations to business partners in Korea.
On November 17, Stef Blok, Minister for Housing and the Central Government Sector will visit Korea with a business delegation. During his visit, he will have meetings with Korean companies including National Pension Service, Kookmin Bank, Samsung SRA Asset Management, Korea Investment Corporation to exchange views on Dutch housing market.
This morning the families of the victims of the MH17 disaster were briefed by the Joint Investigation Team on the initial findings of the criminal investigation into the downing of flight MH17. These findings concern the weapon used to down flight MH17, the location from which it was fired and the Buk missile system’s route of transport.
Today, the State Secretary of Economic Affairs, Mr. van Dam and Minister of Foreign Affairs H.E. Yun Byung-se have signed an MoU on the Working Holiday Program (WHP). The WHP will start on October 1st and allows one hundred people between 18 and 30 years old to get to know each others culture and society. Korean applicants have to apply at the Netherlands Embassy in Seoul.
The FIVB Volleyball World League is hosted by FIVB(International Volleyball Federation) every year. This year it is the 27th edition of the event and currently being played from 16 June to 17 July.
On June 20 and 21 2016, H.E. Park Yongho, Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Young Generation, will visit the Netherlands. His visit will focus on the Dutch startup ecosystem and aims to a) learn from and be inspired by the Dutch startup ecosystem and the Netherlands’ innovative economy b) explore opportunities for Dutch startups in Korea and Korean startups in the Netherlands, mainly in the areas of gaming, smart farming/agro and clean energy c) generate follow-up and intensify cooperation, for example in relation to the upcoming visit of Prime Minister Mark Rutte to Korea from September 26-29 2016.
